The files that run the CNC can be created from nearly any vector-based file including: 3dm, dwg, dxf, pdf, ai, eps, 3ds, lwo, stl, obj, skp and others. Bitmap files, such as photographs and height map files can also be used to create G-Code carving data that can be used to create machining toolpaths. Often the files are supplied by designers or created in house. The next step is creation of the CAM (Computer Aided Machining) files utilizing various software that best suits the project. We developed proprietary software to input dimensions to create cutting files and sheet layout to speed up pedestal and vitrine production.
Below are a few examples of how files can be interpreted and CNC Machined including a 30FT topographical map of Manhattan dimensionally carved in signfoam interpreted from bitmap height data collected by scientists studying the changing environment of the island of Manhattan.
